Little Legends
When you play TFT, you might notice a small creature walking around your board between rounds. That creature is your Little Legend, and it serves as your personal avatar throughout the match. This guide explains what Little Legends are, what they do, and how to get them.
What Are Little Legends?
A Little Legend is the character that represents you on the game board. While your champions do the fighting, your Little Legend is the one wandering around the board, picking up loot orbs, and participating in the shared draft carousel rounds.
Every player starts with a default Little Legend, but there are dozens of different species and hundreds of variants to collect. They come in all shapes and sizes, from small fuzzy creatures to tiny dragons and everything in between.
Purely Cosmetic
The single most important thing to understand about Little Legends is that they are entirely cosmetic. Your choice of Little Legend has absolutely zero impact on gameplay. A player with the default Little Legend and a player with a rare legendary variant are on perfectly equal footing.
- Little Legends do not give you any stats or bonuses.
- They do not affect your champions' performance.
- They do not change the champions or items available to you.
- They exist purely for self-expression and fun.
TFT is not pay-to-win in any way. You can reach the highest rank in the game without ever spending a cent on cosmetics.
Your Little Legend in Gameplay
Even though Little Legends are cosmetic, they are woven into the game experience in a few ways:
Taking Damage
When you lose a round, your Little Legend takes the damage on your behalf. You will see a damage animation play on your Little Legend, and your health total decreases. This is a visual representation of the damage, nothing more. The amount of damage is determined by the surviving enemy champions, not by anything related to your Little Legend.
The Shared Draft
During carousel (shared draft) rounds, you directly control your Little Legend. You walk around the circle of champions and items, and your Little Legend physically picks up the champion you want. This is the only time you have direct movement control in TFT.
Emotes and Animations
Little Legends have a variety of idle animations, and you can trigger emotes during the game. These are fun social interactions, like making your Little Legend dance, cheer, or perform other animations. You can also use booms, which are custom visual effects that play when your team wins a round and deals damage to the opponent.
How to Unlock Little Legends
There are several ways to add new Little Legends to your collection:
- Loot and Eggs: Little Legend eggs can drop from loot or be purchased. Each egg hatches into a random Little Legend variant of a specific species.
- The Store: Some Little Legends are available for direct purchase with Riot Points (RP), the game's premium currency. Direct purchase variants let you pick exactly what you want.
- Battle Pass (Tactician's Pass): Each TFT set comes with a reward track. Playing games earns you progress, and the pass includes Little Legend variants, eggs, and other cosmetics at various milestones. There is a free track available to everyone and a premium track with additional rewards.
- Events: Riot occasionally runs limited-time events that offer exclusive Little Legend variants as rewards.
- Star Levels: Many Little Legends have multiple star levels (1-star, 2-star, 3-star). Hatching duplicate variants from eggs increases the star level, which changes the Little Legend's appearance to a more elaborate version.
Choosing Your Little Legend
You can select which Little Legend to use before queuing into a game. Navigate to the TFT collection or loadout screen and browse your available options. You can also set your preferred boom and emotes from the same screen.
If you are just starting out, do not feel any pressure to acquire a specific Little Legend. The default one works perfectly fine, and you will naturally accumulate cosmetic rewards as you play. Focus on learning the game first, and explore the cosmetic side whenever you feel like it.
A Note on Chibi Champions
In more recent sets, Riot has introduced Chibi Champions as a special category of Little Legends. These are miniature versions of popular League of Legends champions that serve as your TFT avatar. They function identically to regular Little Legends (purely cosmetic, no gameplay advantage) but feature unique animations, voice lines, and finishers. Chibi Champions are typically premium cosmetics available through the store or special bundles.
